Do not forget to show hospitality to strangers, for by so doing some people have shown hospitality to angels without knowing it. – Hebrews 13:2

At the Home of Martha and Mary

As Jesus and his disciples were on their way, he came to a village where a woman named Martha opened her home to him.

She had a sister named Mary, who sat down at the feet of the Lord and listened to his teaching.
But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to him and asked, “Lord, don’t you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!”

“Martha, Martha,” the Lord answered, “you are worried and upset about many things, but few things are needed—or indeed only one.

Mary has chosen the good part, which will not be taken away from her.

_Comment_

We see Mary seated at the feet of Jesus, the position of a disciple, listening to every word. Mary pictures devotion to God and his teaching through faithful attention to Jesus. It is better to be a listening disciple than a immaculate host.
